The C & C Peak.

Album Three, and promise of the first which evolved into the power of the second now becomes fully formed in the third. This is a stone cold classic of progressive metal. Subsequent albums have been strong, but none have quite hit the heights found here.
The highlights are numerous - Welcome Home is one the best metal tracks ever written, full-stop. Big, epic and with a solo at the end to die for. The other singles Ten Speed & Suffering are wonderful short punchy tracks, between are another handful of tracks which, unlike so many other bands, NOT filler tracks. Like IKS3, the consistency running through is amazing.
Personally, I love the Willing Well (I - IV) - a 30 minute suite of four songs. Most bands struggle to maintain a song over 5mins, but here C&C do four in a row at 7-8mins. The song-writing is more than impressive and the listener is held throughout. Many dimensional, many weaving themes, many high-points - driving Maidenesque metal to Floydian space rock, filled with melody.
So much for the music. In terms of the story, the tale spread over the first two discs takes a detour here looking at the Writer who shapes the lives of the characters in previous albums, and some of the delusional weirdness which drove him. Great!
